OUR STORY

Power Scavengers began as any start-up should, with three college students sitting inside a McDonalds at 1:00 am talking about how they want to change the world. This meeting occured on March 31st 2018 and marked the first official meeting of Power Scavengers. The three students, Adam Hookway, George Philbrick and Skylar Bagdon, left the Mcdonald’s late that Friday night (technically Saturday morning) and began a weekend of furious prototyping to try and create the company’s first functional product. After two days locked in a friend’s basement with soldering irons and a 3D printer, the team successfully built and tested a wearable device that could produce a usable amount electrical charge simply from the motion of the user walking.
Shortly after this a fourth member, Evan Greenwald, officially joined the Power Scavengers founding team to assist with early business creation. Together the four worked to build the concept of Power Scavenging into an actual business that found early success at the University of Vermont’s Business Pitch competition. The team took 2nd place despite the company’s incredibly short history. Power Scavengers officially incorporated in Burlington Vermont on April 17th 2018 and filed a provisional patent on its early technology just one month later.
The ideas that became the foundation of Power Scavengers came to life a few months prior to the McDonalds meeting during an undergraduate research project conducted at the University of Vermont by Skylar Bagdon. After building an early proof of concept device in his dorm room, Skylar saw the real potential of power scavenging and reached out to some of his talented friends and classmates (Adam, George, and Evan) who had the engineering and business skills to turn an early idea into an actual product and business. Skylar later took one of the early prototypes around the world and scavenged electrical energy from walking in remote location such as The Island of Zanzibar, the mountains of Alaska, and even the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Today the company is based out of Burlington Vermont and the founding team is working diligently to refine their technology and bring power scavenging to the masses.
